How does online tutoring work? There are two main ways that students receive online tutoring. Primary is through Apple’s iChat program. This program pairs well with all Mac computers that have built-in camera’s and microphones. For students who have PCs, Skype is valuable alternative.

What do I need to do online tutoring? While requirements vary, either your Mac or PC should have at least a 1.5GHz processor, running either MacOS 10.5 or higher or Windows Vista. Your Internet speed should be 900Kbps or higher. To find out how fast your connection is you can test it at this link.

What is the process to begin tutoring?

Where do I find the documents Kevin mentioned in our initial interview? Clients are asked to read, review and sign a copy of the current Kevin A. Doty Tutors contract. It can be downloaded here. Kevin can also send you an electronic copy at the end of your initial interview. Please sign and date the contract and return it with your initial deposit and prior to your first session.

Is Kevin really a rocket scientist?
Yes. Kevin earned a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Purdue University with a major in jet and rocket engine design. While in college, he worked at General Dynamics in Fort Worth, Texas on the F-16 fighter jet.

What services does Kevin offer? Kevin offers general education & study skills as well as quality test preparation for most standardized tests including the SSAT, PSAT, SAT & ACT. Kevin specializes in all mathematics and science subjects including calculus, chemistry and physics.

What is Kevin's tutoring experience? Kevin has been tutoring for different students since high school when he began tutoring 7th grade math and served as a third grade teacher's aide. He has worked for individual clients to tutor general study skills, mathematics, sciences. Kevin also tutored at the Princeton Theological Seminary Writing Center helping graduate and PhD students with their writing. Recently he has taught and tutored students at several private schools in San Francisco, including University High School, Saint Ignatius Preparatory School, Cathedral School for Boys, The San Francisco School and Town School for Boys.

Where did Kevin teach? Kevin was a 1995 Teach for America corps member and taught 7th grade math and science at Intermediate School 90 in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City. While there, he earned a Master of Science in Education at Mercy College and received his permanent New York State teacher certification for 7–12 Physics and general science. Recently he has also been a short and long-term substitute at The San Francisco School, the Cathedral School for Boys and the Town School for Boys, all in San Francisco.

What other subjects does Kevin tutor? In addition to general education and study skills and test preparation for SSAT, PSAT, SAT and ACT, Kevin also tutors all mathematics and science subjects including algebra, college and linear algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, chemistry and physics.

I heard someone call Kevin, "RevKev"? In 2001, Kevin was ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA) after earning his Masters of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey. Until 2008, Kevin served as Associate Pastor for Discipleship at Calvary Presbyterian Church, a 1,200 member community of faith in San Francisco, where his responsibilities included educational programming for junior and senior high youth, children and adults.

What other things has Kevin done? Kevin is an Eagle Scout, has through-hiked the 95-mile West Highland Way in Scotland, is a trained Emergency Medical Technician and YMCA lifeguard and swimming instructor.
